Our first lookbook was a total success and it got the ball rolling!
The enthusiasm and determination level among the beautiful plus size bloggers on the team has reached the roof. We were also so happy to welcome a handful of new plus size bloggers from region joining our community, in aim to promote plus size fashion and body positivity.

At this point, we are 15 members and we predict great things from now till the end of the year, and hopefully onward...

The Middle East Plus Size Fashion Bloggers are back again with a new edition of this inspiring lookbook series. This time, we have decided to play on the hashtag #StyleitMyWay and we chose to tackle the forever classic white t-shirt and jeans! We hope you enjoy this lookbook as much as you did the first one.
Here are our outfit ideas and fashion tips on how to glamify this casual look:

 // LOOK [01] //  HANANE FATHALLAH
THE FOODIE T-SHIRT
#CURRENTLYCRAVING
"One of my latest favorite finds is this kimono jacket from River Island Plus. It is light and the print is probably the best thing about it. I decided to pair it with my favorite foodie t-shirt! The statement is 100% me. An original foodie! The white tee and jeans is like a white canvas: throw in your favorite colors and accessories to reflect your personality and style. Mine says that I am foodie with an appetite for colorful prints!"
Forever21+ Tshirt • New Look Jeans • River Island Plus Kimono Jacket • Redtag Bag

 // LOOK [02] //  TARANA KARAMATH
MULTI-COLOR IN NYC
"Started with a graphic tee and worked around it. I tried several options when it came to choosing the perfect coverup or jacket and this one was the winner. This light lemon-green jacket from Brands For Less accentuates the classic tee and jeans. Lastly, the multi-color clutch is the icing on the cake, as it brings the entire look together. An effortless vibrant look!"
REDTAG
T-shirt • New Look Jeans • Brands For Less Jacket • Steve Madden Clutch • Shoe Express Shoes

 // LOOK [03] //  NERMEEN NASEF
BLACK & WHITE
"I chose to wear a different style of jeans, The Colette style, which is really trending now. In order to stay cool, I picked a sleeveless shirt paired with a black light cotton cardigan - as it is super hot here in Egypt! Inferno of almost 40 degrees! My jeans are actually from Marks and Spencer in a size 24, a pair that I've had for the longest time but I love them."
Marks & Spencer Jeans

 // LOOK [04] //  SYEDA ERUM
THE BOMBER LAYER
"If we’re talking about a simple white tee and jeans, heads up bomber jacket. They have been my favorite trend throughout, and the perfect throw on when you want to look not-so-basic. Going for a casual day out, to a walk on the beach or an occasional lunch/dinner suits it all! My personal style of edgy, cool and chic sums up this outfit because of the pop of color through the sling and of course for the love of blush in those heels!"
Bershka Jacket • New Look Jeans/Heels/Belt Top •  F21 Accessories • Matalan Bag

 // LOOK [05] //  ARFA SHAHID
PAKISTANI FLAIR
"This is what you get when you merge heritage and fashion. The scarf I am wearing is in a beautiful light orange-yellow color and it is from a Pakistani brand called Outfitters. My sandals are from Khaadi, also a local brand in Pakistan. Pom-poms and tassels sandals are the cutest footwear trend, especially for the summer time! I got this white shirt stitched from a Pakistani-style fabric I got from a souq in Pakistan. The lace detailing gives this classic casual look a feminine touch."

 // LOOK [06] //  ALINE CHIRINIAN
CAMO & VELVET
"White t-shirts are a big part of my wardrobe. I find them so easy to dress up and down. Every time I spot a white shirt at a store, I'm tempted to purchase it even though I know I have some in my closet already, but you can never have too many. Especially if you're a cluts like me and always spill things on yourself. For the lookbook, I went with my current favorite white tee from Zara that I found on sale a while back. For bottoms, I didn't want to take the plain blue denim route so instead I went the "camo" route but added some "femininity" with my favorite velvet heels from Stradivarius."
Zara Top • Style & Co Jeans • Stradivarius Heels • Zara Bag • H&M Sunglasses
ASOS Earrings • Magenta by Jessica Nails Nail Color

 // LOOK [07] //  SUCHITRA MOHAN
THE FLORAL SCARF
"Unexpected details give this classic look a fun twist - bell sleeves, a pop of color with the scarf, and casual white shoes for some extra playfulness."
SPLASH
Shirt • Levi's Jeans • Charles & Keith Shoes • Guess Sunglasses • MAX Scarf

 // LOOK [08] //  SABRIN AL-SUBAIHI
RUFFLE-FLY EFFECT
"Denim, white shirt and ruffles are the perfect match! I decided to extend the 'ruffle effect' also onto my black slingbacks. There is a balance of black and white ruffles that keeps the classic white tee and jeans look intact, as well as adding that extra touch to make it stand out. Love it!"

Shirt • ASOS Curve Jeans • NEXT Shoes • ALDO Bag • H&M Earrings

 // LOOK [09] //  JYOTSNA SUNIL
THE WHITE BARDOT TOP
"Obsessed with off shoulder tops and a good tan, I am a plus size girl who encourages self confidence, trying to change your idea of beauty one step at a time and I begin with a white tee"

 // LOOK [11] //  NARIMENE MILOUDI
THE DENIM JACKET

The Middle East Plus Size Fashion Bloggers are finally coming together to launch our first outfit collaboration! The #MEPSBloggers have decided to create a stylish summer-inspired lookbook, featuring the different trends of this "mucho caliente" season!

Launching this community in November 2016 has had its challenges and stagnant moments but hopefully with this first collaboration, we will be able to get the ball rolling as we post more inspiring articles and lookbooks.

Our beautiful plus size bloggers featured in this first edition are all from different backgrounds, which will only enrich this post. It is a kaleidoscope of outfits that resonates with the diversity of each of our cultures and our lifestyles in the cities we live in. Here are our favorite summer trends...

 // LOOK [01] //  HANANE FATHALLAH

 // LOOK [02] //  NAIRA GHANEM
THE TROPICAL KIMONO

THE FLORAL MAXI DRESS
"Ever since my friend told me to save the date for her wedding, I was excited but nervous to find a proper dress. I wanted something that was one bold color, like royal blue or emerald green, but I couldn't find anything that I liked. As I almost gave up with finding a dress at Macy's, my cousin spotted this one and said "What about this?" I said "Yeah... I guess."
Once I put it on, I knew it was the one! As for accessories, I wore funky earrings and rings.
For shoes, I wore my current favorite sandals from Stradivarius that are gorgeous and comfy!"

Stradivarius Shoes / ASOS Bag / I am Accessories Earrings / Ananda Venice Sunglasses

 // LOOK [04] //  NERMEEN NASEF
THE CHAMBRAY JACKET
"Whether you are on a tight budget or feeling uninspired, a good place to start looking is not the shops but in your own wardrobe! You might be surprised how you can re-purpose your old clothes. Gems waiting to be restyled into new outfits. I found this old chambray jacket and it totally complements this vibrant pink top and busy floral scarf. Summer chillin' ♡"

As for my accessories, I picked two bracelets: one of them I bought while I was in Hammamet, a popular tourist destination in Tunisia. My Mango bag and trusty sunglasses to complete this floral feminine look!"

Well, this is a first time for all of us! 2017, the year that brought you London Modest Fashion Week, a brand new addition to London’s renowned Fashion Frenzy. Before we get started on the amazing collections and designers the show featured, let’s just admire the amazing effort and organization put into this event hosted by Haute Elan.

So what is it that makes LMFW so different to any other shows that were on during the week?
We spoke to a few lovely attendees and asked them what modesty means to them!

Sarah J – "For me, Modesty in fashion is all about not letting clothing define who you are and what your brain is filled with. Yes, what you’re wearing gives a first impression, but it’s not the lasting one. I think it’s amazing to finally get to represent our modest clothing to the world without being looked down upon, or accused off being less modern."

Jasmine A – "For years I have been wearing Abayas and loose clothing, people viewed it as not trendy and closed off, but now seeing all these amazing designs that reflect us as Muslims, here at a worldwide event, makes the wait and suffering worth it."

Noura K – "London Fashion Week just got a whole lot better, and now it caters to a huge majority in England, you don’t have to be Muslim to be modest, the designs are amazing and I can’t wait to see them on the runway"

It was amazing to see such beautiful individuals all here to support one cause, Modest Fashion!
And it wasn’t just the designers that stole the runway, our favourite bloggers and business women were also there to support the cause, Dina Tokio, Zukreat, Nabila Bee and many more!

Let’s not forget the variety of attendees and their show-stopping modest fashion! It was beautiful to see people from all ethnicities, from Malasian to African, Arab to Pakistani, all attending in their array of colours and styles.

Let’s have a quick look of some of the amazing designers and brands that were at the show!

Are you ready for summer yet? Omirizwa Gupta definitely is!
Bold, bright colours and patterns lighting up the room. This collection features patterns you probably won’t see anywhere else from birds to heels and even graphic faces! Modest is definitely the way to go this summer, with wide leg trousers, and loose chiffon tops for that maximum comfort and breeze!

HIJABI HEAVEN
A huge part of London Modest Fashion Week, Hijabs! Every Hijabi is on the quest to find the perfect one, whether its material, colour or design.

Foulard Hijabs, another extravagant designer all the way from Saudi Arabia.
This line of hijabs screams elegance and class.
A soft voile material, lined with gold embroidery in vast deep shades, perfect for those special occasions!

Luna’s Essentials was one of my favourite Hijab Designers,
mainly because of the delicate lace addition to the scarves.
A super lightweight material and an array of pastels and browns to match every occasion.

THE MODERN TWIST ON THE ABAYA
Their spring collection focuses on lace and crochet styles in white and cream, using a black contrast to give a classic look. They also love to explore shades of taupes, mauves and dusty pinks, which is always going to be trendy!

Selezza (London)

The idea of transforming abayas into dresses has really kicked off in the past few years, giving them more shape, colour and intricate designs. Some people might find it easier to style a dress than an abaya, as it’s not something new to them, and has slowly become a fashion choice for hijabis and non hijabis too!

The transition to modest fashion is happening!

{100 shades of Abaya}
Ferdaje was by far the most elegant of abaya designers at the show, with a huge variety of styles designs, and every piece made to perfection.

The nude collection by Ferdaje

I’ve never seen such a versatile collection before, especially in terms of lighter colours, experimenting with whites and creams, finished with pearl details.

Wide sleeves have become a ‘tradition’ in abayas now, adding such elegance, as well as the contrast in the sleeve colour, shown in nearly every abaya.

Ferdaje's classic black and cream collection

Going back to the classic black abayas, Ferdaje brought in new ideas to break the norm. A beautiful embroidered design, shown on the right with white netting, pearls and beadings, almost as an accessory to the abaya. Another favourite was the black embellished abaya with gold gems, again adding a touch of glam.

Let’s have a look at a few runway styles!

ALL KHAKI

Ummiraz blessed the runway with all khaki designs that mixed traditional dress with modern day trends, from flared drapes, tribal designs, and so many ruffles! Who knew you could do so much with Khaki?

Here were my favourite looks from the show...

ALL OUT ON VELVET
MASELA Kuala Lumpar showed us just how versatile velvet can be in all shades!

Thin Strapped Velvet dresses are so in this season.
The rich colour just emphasizes the feel of velvet!
More emphasis on the back! An open back drape with a cute bow

READY FOR A NIGHT OF GLAMOR?
A.Sahee brought us the gorgeous Burgundy Sparkle gown, any girl's dream. Embroidered with a graphic zigzag design, paired with a gold belt and a fur shawl, this would be my choice for an extravagant gala or wedding.

Another piece from the collection was this gold dress, a regal design fit for a queen.
Using a Damascus print all over, expresses its authenticity, almost an Arab vibe.

What I loved most about these two pieces was that they defined modesty to me.
Both maxi dresses, with long sleeves, proving to us how effortless modesty can be, without the hassle of wearing multiple layers underneath! I really do hope the fashion industry go towards this goal of modest fashion, it makes our lives as hijabis much easier, not stressing out about an open back top or too short sleeves!

There were so many designers over the 2 days and it was great getting a chance to speak to them and listen to their ideas on modesty and what they want to bring into the fashion industry!

Other designers featured in the show: iiLA, Leenaz, A. Sahee, byxmez, Avyaana Abaya.

Modesty comes in all shades and designs, and I’m so proud to represent such a huge campaign.
The amount of effort these designers put into each piece is incredible, and we’re all looking forward to the show in 2018.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the skinniest of them all?”
The obsession behind being thin is no doubt related to the deceiving link between 'thin' and 'beautiful'.
This misconception has taken over popular culture and society and has overthrown the silent majority of plus size women. No matter how liberal and open-minded the Arabs might say they are, their ideologies still don't fully accept larger women. Plus size women have been silent for far too long, so as to avoid confrontations with misogynistic males or calorie-counting women, also to stay away from name-calling, embarrassment and - potential - social rejection. Women should have a voice, regardless of their age, size, shape or social status. There is a demand for plus size fashion, yet the response is slow, and sometimes absent.
There is also a lack of awareness and guidance.
Another concern is, where does the upcoming generation of young women look for role models?
Probably in magazines that promote crash diets and unreasonable beauty standards.

My name is Hanane Fathallah and I am Lebanese plus size fashion blogger. I started my blog Nounzilicious back in 2013. At the time, I was still living in Saudi Arabia. I was trying to voice out my concerns about social acceptance and fashion needs, but due to the conservatism of the country, I didn't have the complete liberty to be loud and proactive. Alongside my minimal activity on my blog, I wrote articles for a couple of regional women magazines, in hopes of shedding light on the issues I advocate, like plus size fashion and body positivity. I just recently moved to Dubai and the tables have turned since then.

From the very beginning of my blogging journey, my inspirations have always been international influencers and plus size bloggers. I had never really come across Arab or Middle Eastern plus size women who advocated the movement. My search never stopped. Sure, the plus size fashion movement is skyrocketing in the West, but in Middle East/Arab region and Gulf, it hasn't yet fully launched.

“Unity is power”
I have always been a big believer of collaborative and collective work, especially when it comes to women issues. Women promoting women, what an empowering motto!
My move to Dubai has been an important catalyst in reviving my blog and pursuing my research. My aim has always been to found a community of plus size bloggers. Eventually, I came across a handful of beautiful bloggers who came from a fashion or beauty background, but who all promote the plus size and body positivity movement. Last month, I decided to bring together all these women under one roof so I finally created the community I have always longed for. I started contacting one blogger after the other and they were all equally excited about this initiative!
I founded an online community called 'Middle East Plus Size Fashion Bloggers'

So who are we exactly?...

Middle East Plus Size Fashion Bloggers is an online fashion community founded by Dubai-based Lebanese plus size fashion blogger Hanane Fathallah from Nounzilicious. It is an initiative to bring together plus size bloggers from the Middle East and Arab region, and address untapped topics like plus size fashion and body positivity. There are so many misconceptions that roam around being a plus size woman and our mission to correct these false ideologies and replace them with more positive messages, such as body confidence, body diversity, promoting style for all sizes and illustrate with outfits and fashion tips, all to reflect an image of a healthy confident curvy plus size Arab and Middle Eastern woman.

Egypt-based plus size blogger Nermeen Nasef from the blog Kalbooza Fashion is the bubbly personality: her good humor is beyond contagious! She was the first one I actually contacted and was blown away by the concept.

Bahrain-based Mai Al-Saudi from the blog Plus by Mai is an established plus size blogger who keeps her social media blooming with outfits and fashion tips.
She is also currently pursuing Masters Studies in Blogging and Consumer Behavior.

SabrinAl-Subaihi
from the blog Sabura's Fashion Blog is originally Palestinian and based in Germany.
I actually noticed her after she had published a Palestinian-inspired Folklore Dress outfit post on her blog.

Dubai-based Aseya Nasib from the blog Pretty in the Desert is half-Japanese, half-Emirati with a pinch of American flair. She is currently building her makeup artist portfolio and she also wants to venture into plus size fashion through her blog.

Egypt comes knocking on our door again with the lovely Naira Ghanem from Touch of Sparkle, who is based in London and is currently a beauty editor at Gaya Magazine and an answers-seeker to the plus size and body positive movement.

Architect and Beauty/Fashion lover Mona Hassounah from the blog A Colorful Eye is also part of the team: I spotted her after plus size brand YOURS Clothing tagged her outfit on social media. A sweet soul with a great interest in guiding women and promoting body confidence.

And coming from the Mediterranean shores, Beirut-based Aline Chirinian from the blog Nouchaline is a well-known blogger in Lebanon, a promoter of plus size fashion, body confidence and healthy lifestyles; She is also an online editor and blogger for lifestyle and social magazine Mondanité.

There is also Racha Hajlaoui, a young Tunisian plus size blogger from the blog Curvaceous Racha decided to join our team! A strong believer that “fat” and “beautiful” are not opposites, she started a blog to convey a body positive message, as she blends her love for fashion with photography.

And last but not least, joining us from the Netherlands is Dilara Özcan, a plus size blogger who is originally from Turkey. She recently started a blog called Dilspiration and has welcomed our initiative with so much enthusiasm!

From outfit collaborations, inspirational articles and fun girly posts, our team of plus size bloggers will try to bring readers and followers 100% confidence. At the moment, we are 10 bloggers: the first keyword that comes to mind when they see us is DIVERSITY. We showcase the different faces of Arab and Middle Eastern women within our team. There is always room for more, but for now we are embracing the opportunity to get to know each other, to brainstorm together, to share ideas, contribute and create content to keep our online community active and up-to-date!

Just to end our first post...

Arab and Middle Eastern society might hesitate to embrace this type of community, due to certain taboos, misconceptions and backward ideologies; but through this initiative, we are trying to break those boundaries and to create a space where plus size, curvier, bigger, larger women can find inspiration, fashion solutions and positivity. Beauty and style come in all sizes! One major misconception about plus size women is that they are unhealthy and promoting obesity. A body shape does not reflect a woman's journey, a woman's health and lifestyle and her ambitions. Every woman has a story, a past and present and a future to look forward to.
Fashion just like anything else constantly changes. A woman's body goes through so many changes and I can't understand why a plus size woman cannot be given that confidence, away from all judgments and be embraced as she is.

A body shape, size or weight does not define a woman. Fashion is a man-made empowering tool to enhance a woman's femininity and increase her self-esteem. All women are entitled to it!
And just like international plus size model, body positive activist and entrepreneur Denise Bidot says:
“There is no wrong way to be a woman”

Middle East Plus Size Fashion Bloggers, a collective that we hope will see even brighter days and inspire many women like ourselves!
